As you probably know, I love crafts. All of them. If I had to choose a favourite, it would be pretty much impossible to choose.
And what I love even more is trying out new crafts! Lately I've been yearning to try something new - or old in one case. Now, if only had the time for all of it ...
* Patchwork. I did a VHS course on patchwork/quilting way back in ... 1999? 2000? I enjoyed it a lot and produced a few nice quilted blankets. Ever since I didn't do anything with it, though. I was reminded of it a while ago and spent a lot of time looking at pattern and pictures on the net. If I knew who to make it for I would start on a new quilt right now
!
Instead, for the time being I think I will try a few mug rugs first
.
Mug rugs seem to be the latest craze in the patchworking world - they're easy and fast to make and can be made with scraps. Of course, mostly making dolls in the last years all my scraps are solid colours and as such, pretty boring. So somehow some patterned fabrics found their way into my bag while I was at the fabric store to shop for my superduper sekrit EQ con project
. (I also probably should buy a rolling cutter and a cutting mat but so far ... uh, it's the end of the month, my account's empty and shit's expensive!)
*
Kumihimo. I stumbled upon that a while ago and was intrigued but never got around to trying it. Kumihimo is a Japanese braiding technique - lately it has become easier to do it without buying expensive supplies since there are inexpensive foam rubber disks and such available. Not that I would know what to do with the braids but then, is that really the point when being artistic
? Still looking for information and sources for supplies on that one.
*
Temari. No, not the one from Naruto! (I kinda had to wade through lots of pages on her to find those about the craft.) I first saw it on a bento blog where the blogger had got a temari ball as a gift. It's an embroidery technique using small balls wrapped in thread and embroidered with symmetric patterns. I don't know if I really could do that but I'd love to give it a try anyway!
* Needle felting. In the words of the writer of Must Have Cute
stuff.icanhascheezburger.com : How many other (legal) hobbies are there that consist mainly of stabbing and end up with cute stuff?! Really, it sounds awesome and I even have most of the supplies I need for it
(since I have lots of wool for spinning). I actually was looking for a good book on it earlier but couldn't find one :/. Will have to look into it more closely.
And of course there are a lot of other things I would like to try. Bobbin lace-making for example! But for the sake of brevity I probably should stop now
.
